What is it?

Glasgow Guarantee is an investment in Glasgow's future. It benefits those looking for Fair Work jobs, by developing the skills of our city's workforce, alongside helping local businesses to recruit, by offering an Employer Recruitment Incentive (ERI) that can be used to source a new member of staff.

Glasgow Guarantee candidates have been working towards their employment goals, whether being supported by an employability provider within the city or engaging with careers advisors in schools or colleges, and have overcome challenges to get ready for employment. We work with people from different backgrounds including people with disabilities/health conditions, from an employment deprived area, no or limited work experience, care leavers and many more! Glasgow Guarantee can give Glasgow businesses direct access to a diverse pool of work ready candidates, who are actively seeking employment.

The programme also offers an in-work progression/training award payment, to help candidates progress and gain additional transferable qualifications and includes in work support to both candidates and businesses.

Who is it for?

The Glasgow Guarantee makes it easy for unemployed/underemployed people in the city who are looking for a job or modern apprenticeship to gain direct access to real living wage opportunities.

For businesses who are seeking new employees, it provides a direct route to an approved pool of available and job ready candidates, with financial support available to help recruit and train.

You can access these opportunities

For individuals if you:

  • Live in a GCC council postcode or currently attend a GCC school
  • Are unemployed/underemployed *working part time or 0 hours contract job
  • Are job ready and able to access and sustain employment, with or without support
    And
  • Leaving education within 3 months
    Or 
  • Supported by an employability provider
    Or
  • Under threat of redundancy and supported by PACE

Glasgow Guarantee can offer you direct access to lots of employment opportunities and additional training, either through a job or modern apprenticeship.  Opportunities pay the real living wage and are available with local businesses and Glasgow City Council.

There are no age restrictions to join our programme and whatever your background and personal circumstances, we have a dedicated network of approved employability providers across the whole city, to work directly with you and support you to find, apply and get ready for your next job.

For businesses if you:

  • Are operating within the Glasgow City Council boundary
  • Employ fewer than 250 employees
  • Are a private company, social enterprise or third sector organisation
  • Hold current public and employers' liability insurance
  • Are able to provide payslips, and where requested, payroll run and business bank statements
  • Agree to only recruit from our pool of candidates
  • Adhere to Fair Work First commitments which includes payment of the Real Living Wage (including apprentices) and providing appropriate channels of effective workers' voice
  • Do not have any outstanding debt to Glasgow City Council - approval is dependent on Non-Domestic rate account being up to date

Businesses can benefit from up to a maximum of £8,000, dependent on number of contracted hours per week, when recruiting from the Glasgow Guarantee candidate pool of candidates.
