Public Consultation on Public Processions and Demonstrations
An important aspect of Glasgow's history is the tradition of public processions and demonstrations. This tradition has positive aspects, but concerns have been raised recently about the conduct of some processions - in particular, a small number of those perceived to have sectarian associations. These concerns are mainly about the potential disruption to local residents and to city life more generally, caused by the volume of processions (over 300 in 2003).
The issue was highlighted in 
Sectarianism [533kb] which we published in 2003.
During summer 2004, we consulted the public and a wide range of organisations in the City on a draft policy and guidance on public processions and demonstrations.
A copy of the final 
Final Policy Statement on Public Processions [48kb] was approved in February 2005.
