Contact Roads

What is it?

A system is in operation for heavy loads coming into the City. The Council checks that proposals to move abnormal loads through the city are safe.

To date loads up to 400 tonnes in weight and up to 70 metres long, almost the length of a football pitch, have been accommodated.

Some examples of the range of loads you may see passing through the city include:

  • Power station transformers
  • A submarine
  • Various trains

How many abnormal loads are there?

On average there are 50 notifications of abnormal loads per day.
