Annual Canvass of Households

  • Helpline 0141 287 4444

Every year the Electoral Registration Officer is required to conduct a canvass of all households in Glasgow to establish who is eligible to vote. The 2022 canvass will commence in August with the first letters issued from the 10 August 2022.

When you receive your letter check the details we hold on the Electoral Register are correct and if a response is required please do so as soon as possible.  Please read your letter and follow the instructions for responding.

Our online service is fully operational and will allow you to provide a response and make any required changes to your household details.  Your letter will detail what to do to access this service.  Our phone lines are also fully operational, Monday to Friday 9am until 5pm, but may be busier than usual due to demand.

Further new legislation which extended the voting franchise in Scotland was introduced in June 2020.  This now means that you can register to vote if you are resident and are aged 14 years and over and are:

  • a UK or Irish Citizen
  • an EU citizen living in the UK
  • a qualifying Commonwealth citizen (includes citizens of British Crown Dependencies and British Overseas territories)  who has leave to enter or remain in the UK, or who does not require such leave
  • a qualifying Commonwealth citizen (includes citizens of British Crown Dependencies and British Overseas territories)  who has leave to enter or remain in the UK, or who does not require such leave

Please note that it is an offence to knowingly provide false information on an application to register to vote, and if convicted you could be imprisoned for up to six months and/or face a fine of up to £5000.
