Overview

The first Glasgow City Region City Deal project to be completed - Tontine hosted high quality and flexible workspaces for high-growth start-ups in the enabling technology, advanced design/manufacturing and creative economy sectors.

Based in Glasgow's Merchant City, the business accelerator nurtured and helped enterprises to scale-up; providing support for entrepreneurs to step back and work on their business rather than in it.

Tontine closed in July 2021 on conclusion of its 5-year project duration. You can find out more about this project and the outcomes it delivered below.

Companies that took up desk space at Tontine benefited from a highly focused Account Managed Service from a dedicated Business Adviser and wider support services tailored to their business needs as they increased in size or reach.

The environment and access to a like-minded community helped to foster networking opportunities whilst incubating the growth and impact of businesses through collaboration.

Background

Tontine was delivered as part of the £1.13 billion Glasgow City Region City Deal - supported by the UK Cabinet Office's Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

Outcomes

Tontine concluded in July 2021, completing its 5-year project duration. It has supported and helped scale up over 50 start-ups, delivered an accelerator programme in conjunction with Strathclyde University, and helped to create 530 full time equivalent jobs.

  • Incremental Group - an IT support services business that started in Tontine with 3 desks and grew to over 40.

  • Code Clan - an SQA accredited digital skills academy that doubled its Glasgow operation during its time at Tontine.

  • Two Rivers Media - a television and film production company whose business grew from 2 desks to 40 whilst at Tontine, during which time they secured significant investment through international partners.

  • Nude Finance - a fintech company which helps consumers to save for their first mortgage - this business started in Tontine with 2 desks increasing to 10 and has continued to grow through investment during the pandemic.
