Waterfront site in Glasgow to be sold by council for major regeneration project

Glasgow City Council has now approved the disposal of three plots at a site in Tradeston - close to the Tradeston pedestrian/cycle bridge - that will allow the development of a major regeneration project that will deliver over 900,000 square feet of Grade A office space and over 300 new homes.

Council to sell sites in Tradeston for major development

The project is expected to provide work space for 7,000 employees through significant inward investment schemes.

The council's Contract's and Property Committee approved the disposal - for £1,317,500 - of three plots on the site: a cleared site of 0.42 acres, adjacent to the pedestrian/cycle bridge; a site of 0.03 acres, forming part of the public footpath and road; and a Social Work Assessment Centre of 0.258 acres, which will be relocated to Rodney Street in the city.

The site will be purchased by Drum Property Group, with work expected to begin in late 2018, with completion in three years.

Councillor Kenny McLean, City Convener for Neighbourhoods, Housing and Public Realm, said: "The disposal of these plots will enable a development bringing a huge amount of Grade A office space, new homes and new jobs to the city centre, as well as a contribution to the public purse. This project will mark a new chapter in the regeneration of both Tradeston and the waterfront."

The site in Tradeston offers huge potential as a location, with excellent connections such as the pedestrian/cycle bridge linking the area to the International Financial Services District and the wider city centre.
