Moving house within Glasgow

If you have moved house your new address may be out with your current school catchment area (check using 'find my nearest) once you have confirmed the addresses matches the school catchment area and you will have two choices:

  1. Move your child to the local catchment school to your new address or
  2. Request to keep your child at the current school.

1. Move to the local catchment school

  • Primary School

You can now apply to register on line application for your child to attend the new catchment school. The application will be managed by a central team who will liaise with the school to identify a space at the requested stage.   You should normally receive a response within 48 hours of the online form submission.

If the local school cannot accommodate your request the central team will identify an alternative space at the next nearest school.  This process is referred to as local school full.

  • Secondary, ASL school or an Additional Support Needs provision

Please note our online facility is under development and is only available at present for mainstream primary school enrolment at the moment.  To make an application to a secondary, ASL School or Additional Support Needs provision you should contact the catchment school directly.

If the local school cannot accommodate your request a space at the next nearest secondary school will be allocated.  This process is referred to as local school full.

2. Moved house but wish to remain at the current school

Although you have moved out with the catchment area you may wish your child to remain at their current school therefore, you should inform the school of your new address and contact details.

If you are in receipt of free school transport you may no longer be entitled to this and should contact the transport section CITU@glasgow.gov.uk

Please note our online facility is under development and is only available at present for mainstream primary school enrolment at the moment.  Should you wish to make an application to a secondary, ASL School or Additional Support Needs provision, please contact the catchment school directly.

Local School Full

In the event that the catchment school you have requested cannot accommodate the request to enrol your child, Customer Business Services will identify an alternative offer for your child.  This process is known as local school full.

This is normally the next nearest school to your home address and within the sector your child attends.  When LFS is applied your child's details will be held on a centrally managed waiting list for the catchment school. If there are more than one child on the waiting list Customer Business Services will apply the placing request criteria to rank the waiting list.

Customer Business Services will monitor the spaces at each oversubscribed school and will regularly request updates from the schools concerned to make sure any spaces available are offered to those pupils on the waiting list.

If your child cannot be place at the local catchment school they may be entitled to receive free home to school transport if the distance is over 1.2 miles to the primary schools and 2.2 miles to the allocated secondary school.

Please note if you choose to remain in the allocated school after you have been offered a space at the catchment school, transport will be withdrawn.

If you do not wish your child to attend the local catchment school you can submit a placing request after registering with your catchment school.

Paper applications can be requested by contacting Customer Business Services on 0141 287 8000

Your completed application form should then be posted along with any relevant documentary evidence to:
