Water Row regeneration moves forward with sale of land to housing association

Glasgow City Council today (5 November) approved the off-market disposal of land at Water Row in Govan to Govan Housing Association.

92 affordable homes and over 9,000 square feet of ground floor commercial accommodation will be built on the site as the first phase of the regeneration of Water Row.

The disposal will see the next step in the development of this site, which has been identified as a priority site for regeneration by the council, given its waterside location and the forthcoming connections to Partick and the wider West End through the Govan - Partick Bridge.

A masterplan for Water Row - commissioned by project partners Glasgow City Council, City Property and Govan Housing Association and carried out by Collective Architecture - informed the current plans to deliver affordable housing on the east side of the site, with these homes and the commercial space to be built in a first phase, with a second phase following on the west of the site.

The terms and conditions of the disposal of the land have been provisionally agreed with Govan Housing Association, and it is hoped that the transaction will be settled by the end of 2020. The purchase price is £306,000.

Councillor Kenny McLean, City Convener for Neighbourhoods, Housing and Public Realm at Glasgow City Council, said: "The regeneration of Water Row will not only bring new affordable homes, jobs and services to Govan, but add to the developments taking place throughout the area, from the forthcoming Govan - Partick Bridge to Govan Old and the Glasgow Riverside Innovation District. All of these projects will make Govan a more attractive place in which to live, work and invest."

The site is one of 23 in the city where Glasgow City Council will dispose of land to local housing associations, with the aim of meeting the council's strategic housing, social and economic objectives, as well as supporting inward investment.
