9Notices of motion:-
(a)by Councillor Aileen Colleran:-

"Council notes that this week marks the sixteenth anniversary of the inauguration of Nelson Mandela as South Africa's first democratically elected President and welcomes the achievements of South Africans since 1994 as they have worked to overcome the legacies and injustices of apartheid.

Council recognises the very important links that exist between our city and the South African people, reaffirms its commitment to the work of Local Authority Action for South Africa (LAACTSA) and applauds South Africa as it prepares to play host to the 2010 World Cup, the largest international event ever to be held on South African soil.

Council resolves to fly the South African flag over the City Chambers on Friday, 11th June, the opening day of the World Cup, as a show of our solidarity with the South African people and as a sign of our continued support and cooperation with the wider South African region." View Papers
(b)by Councillor Dr Christopher Mason:-

"The Council acknowledges that the political system in the United Kingdom is now in urgent need of democratic reform and pledges itself to campaign for the constitutional entrenchment of democratic local government as an integral part of the reform process.

In particular the Council will campaign for the adoption in Scotland of:-

1. Measures to enhance the accountability of local authorities to the people who elect them rather than to centralised regulatory authorities;

2. Statutory limits on the power of the Scottish Government and Parliament to transfer local government functions to central government or QUANGOs; and

3. Local authorities to be granted fiscal power that is roughly equivalent to their spending responsibilities as part of a UK wide federalist re-allocation of fiscal power between the United Kingdom Parliament and national and regional assemblies." View Papers
(c)by Councillor Danny Alderslowe:-

"Council recognises the importance of White Ribbon Scotland and its contribution as part of a global campaign taking action to stop violence against women.

Council agrees to raise awareness of the White Ribbon Campaign through regular updates and features in publications, websites and noticeboards.

Council will provide support to ongoing efforts by staff and councillors to take a stand against violence and to take the pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about men's violence against women.

Council will continue to work closely with local agencies and organisations involved in tackling violence against women to extend knowledge and understanding of the issues amongst Glasgow's population." View Papers
(d)by Councillor Martha Wardrop:-

"Scottish Screen and the Scottish Arts Council will form a new cultural body Creative Scotland in June 2010. There will be bases in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, and the new organisation will relocate to the centre of Edinburgh later in the year.

Council welcomes the announcement that Creative Scotland will retain the Scottish Screen offices in Glasgow and that it is committed to operating across both Glasgow and Edinburgh, and to having a truly national presence.

Council agrees to support efforts to building on the work of Scottish Screen and develop assistance for the Film Community as Glasgow emerges as Britain's second film-making hub, after London." View Papers
