9Question by Bailie John McLaughlin:-

"Does the Lord Provost share my delight on hearing the news that Aung San Suu Kyi will stand as a candidate in the forthcoming general elections in Myanmor? Does he welcome this step on the road to democracy and will he convey to her, through her representatives and supporters our good wishes to her and the people of Myanmor?"
10Notices of motion:-
(a)By Bailie John McLaughlin:-

"This Council supports the campaign for Ghurkha Pension Parity, agrees to sign the E-petition and takes all necessary steps to publicise and promote the campaign among the citizens of Glasgow.

Further this Council regrets the unwillingness of the United Kingdom Government to end this discrimination against Ghurkha Servicemen discharged before 1st July 1997 in terms of their pensions for them, and for the widows of Ghurkha Servicemen.

Further Council calls on HM Government, in the name of justice and fairness to end this discrimination now."
(b)By Councillor Danny Alderslowe:-

"Council condemns the recent use of dawn raids and the detention of families containing young children.

Council agrees to write to the First Minister Alex Salmond to voice our condemnation of these practices and to demand that the Scottish Government take this issue up with the UK Government.

Council agrees to write to the deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and the Children's Minister Sarah Teather calling on the UK Government to keep to their promise to end child detention, and respect the rights of all children, including asylum seeking families."
(c)By Councillor Martha Wardrop:-

"Council notes that as part of its operational restructuring plans - titled 'Delivering Quality First' - the BBC has proposed the scrapping of the Introducing in Scotland radio show which has been the only outlet provided by Radio 1 to showcase up-and-coming bands and solo artists from Scotland to a Scottish audience.

Council agrees to submit a response to the consultation by 21st December 2011 to demand that the BBC reverse its plans to scrap the Introducing in Scotland show and, to instead, protect and promote this unique programme." View Papers
