8Notices of motions:-
(a)By Councillor Judith Fisher:-

"Glasgow City Council acknowledges the particular challenges faced by young people leaving care and embraces our responsibilities as corporate parents in ensuring as stable and supportive a transition as possible into adult life.

Glasgow City Council supports Scottish Government proposals to raise the age at which care-leavers should be able to request assistance from their local authority up to and including the age of 25, from the current age of 21, but calls on the Scottish Government to commit to meeting the increased costs which will be incurred as a result of this change in legislation." View Papers
(b)By Councillor Billy McAllister:-

"Council notes with great concern the ongoing, punitive welfare changes being introduced by the United Kingdom Government - such as the widely criticised "Bedroom Tax" - and recognises the terrible impact these reforms will have on large numbers of Glaswegians.

Council further notes the criticism by Westminster's Public Accounts Committee in their report into the benefit assessments being carried out by ATOS Healthcare on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Council therefore resolves to write to the Ministers responsible, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Iain Duncan Smith MP and Disabilities Minister Esther McVey MP, inviting them to visit Glasgow and meet those directly affected by these ongoing changes." View Papers
(c)By Councillor Archie Graham:-

"Council notes the Scottish Select Affairs Committee investigation into the "blacklisting" of trade unionists in the construction industry: notes the substantial evidence provided to the Committee; welcomes the ongoing trade union campaign against the blacklisting of trade unionists; requests that the Chief Executive write to the Scottish Government urging it to use its current consideration of Public procurement rules to enact legislation which prevents companies involved in the blacklisting of trade unionists from securing future public sector contracts." View Papers
(d)By Bailie Elizabeth Cameron:-

"Each year, more than 7000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer across the United Kingdom. Due to a widespread lack of knowledge of the warning signs, the similarity of symptoms to more common conditions and the inability of any screening tests to identify it, ovarian cancer has become known as the 'silent killer' of women.

Council notes the success of previous work in raising awareness of the incidence and symptoms of cancer through bodies such as the Council's former Women's Health Working Group. Consequently, Council recognises the positive contribution that it can make in helping to address the devastating impact ovarian cancer has on women.

Council calls upon the Chief Executive to investigate methods of improving the awareness of staff in the Council family of the symptoms and prevalence of ovarian cancer. Furthermore, it resolves to initiate discussions on the formation of a city-wide health education project in partnership with the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board and existing ovarian cancer action groups." View Papers
(e)By Councillor Shabbar Jaffri:-

"Council notes with concern the number of buildings listed as "Buildings at Risk" by the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) on behalf of Historic Scotland.

Council further notes that up to 20% of the buildings listed as being Buildings at Risk may be owned by Glasgow City Council.

Council therefore resolves to improve the position of Buildings at Risk in Glasgow, by developing an action plan to work with property owners and organisations such as Glasgow Building Preservation Trust and Historic Scotland to ensure that no more of Glasgow's magnificent built heritage is needlessly lost." View Papers
(f)By Councillor Norman MacLeod:-

"Council notes the Labour manifesto commitment to "continue to provide free swimming for the under 18s and over 60s, free golf for the under 18s and free bowling and tennis for all."

Council further notes Labour's manifesto pledge to "extend free golf on Council courses to the over 60s."

Council considers the universal provision of free sport, to key age groups in Glasgow, to be of wider benefit to the city. Physical activity reduces ill health and improves the quality of life of those taking part.

Council therefore welcomes the administration's continuing commitment to this popular and universal policy." View Papers
