(a)By Councillor Martin McElroy:-

"That this Council notes the 10th anniversary of the Stockline Plastics factory explosion that occurred on 11th May 2004; remembers the 9 victims who lost their lives; the survivors who suffered life-changing injuries and the many others affected by this tragedy; pays tribute to those in the emergency services and local community in Woodside who responded when the explosion occurred; further notes that a series of events are being held to mark the occasion including a memorial service attended by the Rt Hon The Lord Provost; agrees that the response to this terrible event reflects Glasgow's sense of community and the resilience of Glaswegians." View Papers
(b)By Councillor David Turner:-

"Council notes that the city has 757 'take away' shops, a rate of one establishment for every 783 Glaswegians, with a greater proportion located in more economically deprived areas of Glasgow. This, in turn, contributes to the poorer health and life expectancy of Glasgow's citizens. Council further notes that there are legitimate calls for 'street food' outlets in areas of high footfall, such as the city centre, to provide a healthy alternative to citizens and visitors.

Council therefore resolves to convene a short-life working group, to report to Council before the summer recess, on all policy areas affecting take away and on-street food vendors, to find a healthier balance and more positive image for the city in the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games and beyond." View Papers
(c)By Councillor Dr Martin Bartos:-

"Council is proud of Glasgow's commitment to human rights and its reputation for welcoming and supporting people from diverse communities including LGBT communities.

Glasgow looks forward to welcoming athletes from across the Commonwealth and, reaffirming Glasgow's commitment to human rights, Council agrees that the Rainbow Flag, as a symbol of support for welcoming diversity, will fly from the City Chambers flagpole for the 7 days prior to the Commonwealth Games during which the Commonwealth flag will fly." View Papers
(d)By Councillor John Letford:-

"Council notes the publication by the Occupational and Environmental Health Research Group (OEHRG) of the paper 'Occupational Health and Safety in Scotland' and welcomes the invaluable contribution of the report's key recommendations.

Council therefore resolves to work with partners to develop a worker and community health and safety centre by year end. In leading this proposal with partners in the public, private and Third Sectors, Council will charge such a centre to advise all employees in Glasgow about prevention, the detection of disease, injury and support available, and will seek to fund the centre by working with partners and by re-aligning funds from within any health promotion budget." View Papers
(e)By Councillor David McDonald:-

"Council condemns the continuing inhumane treatment of asylum seekers by the Westminster Government and notes that Glasgow has been proud to welcome and shelter tens of thousands of refugees over many years. Council notes the landmark judgement by the English High Court on 9th April that current rates of asylum support are inadequate to meet asylum seekers' essential needs. Council remains outraged at the degrading treatment of asylum seekers in Glasgow, and elsewhere, through the application of punitive policies set by UK government departments on issues such as employment, housing, benefits and welfare.

Council recognises that the best option for the development of policies to ensure the humane treatment of refugees and asylum seekers in our city is for decisions on immigration and asylum to be taken in Scotland, reflecting the needs of our society and the welcoming outlook of our people.

Recognising that control of asylum policy currently remains with Westminster, however, Council instructs the Chief Executive to write to the UK Home Secretary, Theresa May MP, requesting that a full year review of UK asylum policy is undertaken, in order to allow Council officers to work with asylum-seeking residents of Glasgow to enable them to live with dignity, support themselves and their families, and participate fully in their new communities." View Papers
(f)By Councillor Gordon Matheson:-

"Council welcomes the recent increase of the Glasgow Living Wage to £7.65 per hour, noting that this will benefit 5,000 of the Council Family's workforce; notes that repeated calls have been made of the Scottish Government to allow payment of a Living Wage to be part of the criteria for awarding public sector contracts; welcomes recent comments from the European Union outlining that there is no law preventing the Living Wage from being part of public sector contracts; therefore instructs the Chief Executive to again write to the Scottish Government, urging it to legislate for the inclusion of the Living Wage as a criterion for awarding public sector contracts." View Papers
