"Glasgow City Council congratulates Nicola Sturgeon MSP on her election as Scotland's first female First Minister.

Council further notes the Scottish Government's latest Programme for Government, which includes an ambitious programme of 13 Bills and policy proposals of direct interest to the citizens of Glasgow and help to address some of the long-standing challenges facing the city, including an Education Bill, Higher Education Governance Bill, Public Health Bill, Carers Bill and Community Charge Debt Bill.

Council pledges to work constructively with the Scottish Government and partner organisations to achieve the best outcomes for Glasgow and Scotland from Scotland's Programme for Government." View Papers
(c)By Councillor Martha Wardrop:-

Council is concerned about the potential implications of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), a proposed free trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and the United States of America (USA). This arises due to the implications of TTIP with respect to the city of Glasgow, with regards to impacts on employment, wages, human rights and inequality, as well as environmental effects such as air pollution, food safety, water quality, carbon emissions, waste management, and environmental agreements. It could have implications across the public sector as it may leave public services wide open to further privatisation.

This Council resolves to request the Chief Executive to write to the Secretary of State for Business and Skill's expressing its deep concern at the developing TTIP, the secretiveness of its processes and its potential impact on public services, social and environmental protection, financial regulation and basic democratic oversight.

Further to this, Council requests assurances from the Secretary of State that the Government will seek full openess to TTIP position texts and that he will endeavour to ensure access to TTIP documentation and development by the UK public including concerned residents of Glasgow." View Papers
(d)By Councillor Archie Graham:-

"Council recognises the significant contribution made to the city from professional and amateur football; notes that in addition to three senior professional clubs, hundreds of junior, amateur and youth teams compete across the city every week; resolves to continue to work with clubs and supporter groups to ensure that they continue to contribute positively to the reputation of the city; believes that the positive reputation of the football supporters would be enhanced by the repeal of the Scottish Government's ineffectual 'Offensive Behaviour and Football Act' and joins calls to that effect; renews it's call for the professional clubs in the city to pay their staff the Glasgow living wage." View Papers

(h)By Councillor Martin Docherty:-

"Council believes that volunteers play a central role in the life of the City of Glasgow; Council recognises that there has been a steady decline in formal volunteering in the city in recent years and draws to the attention of those formulating the city-wide volunteering strategy that it should enhance the opportunities to volunteer and generate equality of access to volunteering through recognising

(1) that volunteering should not be viewed only through the prism of the Third Sector;

(2) the need to promote volunteer opportunities in public bodies including Council;

(3) the city-wide strategy should reflect the needs of potential, existing and former volunteers;

(4) that any city-wide strategy should reflect on the need to have a person centred approach to volunteering not task orientated;

(5) that Council should recognise the need for volunteers not to be out of pocket when undertaking volunteering on behalf of the Council;

(6) that Council calls on other strategy partners to ensure volunteers providing services on their behalf are not out of pocket; and

(7) that the strategy recognises and states that volunteering is not a replacement for paid work and is a free will activity "
(i)By Councillor Graeme Hendry:-

"Council congratulates the city's SSE Hydro on a hugely successful first year of operation.

Council notes that the venue has secured its place as a key destination for the world's top music and entertainment acts, generating an estimated additional net expenditure of more than £130m in Glasgow. The SSE Hydro has welcomed more than 1.4million visitors to more than 160 performances since opening in late 2013.

Council therefore commits to continue working in partnership with the award-winning SSE Hydro Team, to ensure that the venue continues to excel and attract the biggest names in entertainment to our city and to maximise the economic potential of the SSE Hydro."
