"Council congratulates Rangers Football Club on their magnificent achievement in reaching the final of the UEFA Cup. Council further notes the exemplary behaviour of the tens of thousands of supporters who have followed their team across Europe and who have been fantastic ambassadors for the city."
(b)by Councillor James Dornan

"Glasgow City Council welcomes the announcement by the Scottish Government that they are working with the Scottish Football Association to establish a pilot programme that will provide, for the first time, a free heart screening service for amateur athletes in Scotland. This follows the tragic death of professional footballer Phil O'Donnell from Sudden Cardiac Death. The Council welcomes the Scottish Government investment in the sports medicine centre at Hampden stadium which will create the extra capacity needed to offer this screening service to over-16's who are active in amateur sports. The Council also welcomes the commitment of Gordon Smith, the SFA Chief Executive and SFA Medical Officer Professor Stuart Hillis in working to develop this important service for the young people of Scotland."

"This Council has demonstrated its commitment to pre-school education by its provision of nursery schools, nursery classes and children's centres and by employing both child development officers and trained specialist teachers.

Council wishes to remain committed to early intervention through pre-school education and requests the Administration to retain the current level of trained teacher posts in nursery schools and classes in 2008/09 and to make provision for the appointment of a qualified teacher in every nursery class and nursery school in the budget proposals for 2009/10."
(d)by Councillor Danny Alderslowe

"This Council takes pride that it spoke out for Nelson Mandela when it was unpopular to many round the world. To support this legacy, the Council finds it fitting to offer victims of injustice, mental and physical help on their release.

The Council notes that many who have experienced false imprisonment can suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and this can bring hardship on themselves and their families.

The Full Council recommends that a report on the setting up of a retreat centre in Scotland for people who have suffered from a miscarriage of justice is prepared for the Education and Social Work Policy Development and Scrutiny Committee."
(e)by Councillor George Roberts

"Glasgow City Council welcomes the recent comments made by Council Leader, Councillor Steven Purcell, acknowledging the right of the Scottish people to consider all options for the future governance of Scotland including the option of Independence. Council also hopes that Councillor Purcell's comments are indicative of recognition within the Labour Party that the existing position of the Constitutional Commission led by the Labour Party of excluding even discussing the option of Independence is cowardly, untenable, and anti-democratic."
(f)by Councillor Patricia Gibson

"Glasgow City Council condemns the decision in Gordon Brown's last budget as Chancellor to abolish the lowest 10p rate of income tax which will disproportionately hit low earners; is concerned about the effect this will have on the hard working citizens of Glasgow who are on the lowest rates of pay."
(g)by Councillor Alison Thewliss

"Council supports a ban on the use of the 'Mosquito' device, which is currently being employed as a method to deter young people from congregating in public spaces. The use of such a device is an infringement on human rights and is a discriminatory and degrading practice against children and young people.

A ban on these unregulated ultra-sonic devices would address many of the concerns of Police, children's welfare groups, Scotland's Commissioner for Children and Young People, human rights organisations such as Liberty and the Chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament.

To show support for the young people of Glasgow, Council hereby signs up to the 'Buzz Off' campaign currently being run by the Children's Commissioners in Scotland and England and agrees to adopt a policy prohibiting the use of the 'Mosquito' device in the City of Glasgow."
