Brown Bin Recycling

What is it?

The brown bin service is for the collection of garden waste and food waste is only provided to houses that are part of the managed weekly collection service. Flats and tenements are not provided with this service.

Brown bins are collected every week throughout the year.  Information on uplift dates is on the collection calendar.

What can go into the brown bin?

The following items can be placed within the brown bin:

  • Food waste
  • Flowers
  • Plants
  • Branches
  • Grass clippings
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Leaves

What should not be placed in the brown bin?

Please do not place the following items into your brown bin:

  • General waste
  • Bin liners/plastic bags (with the exception of compostable food caddy liners)
  • Soil
  • Litter
  • Stones
  • Rubble

What happens to the brown bin contents?

The contents of the brown bin are taken to an external contractor where the waste is treated to produce compost.  This is then used within agriculture, regeneration projects, horticulture and landscaping projects.
