What is a weighbridge?

A weighbridge is a large set of scales used to weigh entire vehicles and their contents. By weighing the vehicle both empty and when loaded, the load carried by the vehicle can be calculated.

What are the opening hours for households?

8.00 am to 8.00 pm for vehicles less than 1.8 metres (height restrictions) for Glasgow City Council domestic households only.  Please note last entry is 7.45pm.

For Glasgow City Council householders with a vehicle (van) in excess of 1.8 metres who require access out with the commercial opening hours for the deposit of household waste up to 7.45pm, they can contact a Disposal Supervisor who will arrange access to the Civic Amenity Site, with the exception of Polmadie and Shieldhall, by providing name, date, time and vehicle registration. No vans should turn up out with these hours without appointment as they will not gain access to the sites.

The Supervisor will confirm what material can and can't be brought in.

The Supervisors can be contacted Monday to Friday (8.00 am to 3.30 pm) to arrange access out with commercial hours.

At present sites are only for cars / vans only. There is no pedestrian access to the recycle centres.

What are the opening hours for commercial waste?

Commercial waste can be received through the weighbridge at each complex (vans or vehicles normally in excess of 1.8 metres) between the hours of:

  • Monday - Sunday 7.00 am to 4.45 pm

During the above commercial opening hours, members of the public can dispose of household waste with vehicles(vans) in excess of 1.8 metres by entering via the weighbridges at the complexes, subjection to inspection as above, and may be charged.

Please note that Polmadie weighbridge is currently closed to members of the public due to the ongoing build of the residual waste treatment facility.

Is there a height restriction?

There is a 1.8m height restriction in place at all sites.
