Glasgow City Council

Street Cleansing and Litter

Get in Touch

We provide a 24 hour street cleansing and litter service, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

The service is responsible for maintaining 358,213 km of streets; managing 100km2 of public spaces; uplifting three million street litter bins across 56 neighbourhoods in the city; collecting and disposing of around 11,500 tonnes of street litter; and removing litter from the River Clyde.

Glasgow has made significant progress over the last 20 years in transforming the physical environment of the city and establishing its position as a leading business and tourism destination. While recognising the significant improvements to the city, environmental issues are still a major concern for a number of local communities.

Local Environmental Audit and Management Systems (LEAMS)

The LEAMS monitoring standard is used by local authorities as an indicator for street cleanliness and is audited by Keep Scotland Beautiful.

The chart below details the council performance from 2009/10 to 2014/15.
