Glasgow City Council

Council and Committees

Glasgow City Council comprises 79 elected Members, representing 21 multi-member wards of 3 or 4 members.

Our decision-making structure is based on:

  • an executive committee,
  • 5 policy development committees and
  • 2 scrutiny committees.

In addition, we have retained regulatory type committees such as licensing and planning plus a small number of other committees.

We have approved guidelines for the operation of policy development committees and scrutiny committees and these can be downloaded pdf icon here [50kb].

Details of committee remits are set out in the terms of reference. The scheme of delegated functions describes the functions of the council that have been delegated to officers (our staff, as opposed to its elected members) to carry out.
