Home Office Update - 6 February

The Home Office have advised that all new decisions taken from the 13/02/23 will now have 3 months from the Poll/Batch date for citizens to arrange their ceremony date. This should be noted on any correspondence received from the Home Office.  Citizens who received their decision prior to this date will have 6 months from the Poll/Batch date to arrange their ceremony date.

We recommend that you please continue to follow Government advice to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to protect others.  We ask that you do not attend your ceremony if you have tested positive for COVID-19 or if you are displaying any symptoms or have been in close contact with others displaying symptoms such as a persistent cough, flu like symptoms, fever, loss of smell and taste.   

If following the above you cannot attend your ceremony on the day you are due to attend please contact us as soon as possible to let us know.  The team will look to re-schedule your participation for an alternative day.

This information will be included in your ceremony invite along with other important details.  The invite will be sent to you once you have booked a date to attend your ceremony.

Please note we are currently unable to offer Private ceremonies.

What is a British Citizenship Ceremony?

The Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 includes provisions that require all applicants, aged 18 or over, for naturalisation or registration as a British citizen must take a citizenship oath and pledge at a ceremony conducted by a Registrar.

Attending a citizenship ceremony is the final step in the process of becoming a British citizen. The ceremony is a formal occasion that welcomes those who wish to attain full citizenship of the United Kingdom.

Your Citizenship Ceremony in Glasgow

We are only able to schedule Citizenship Ceremonies where the certificate has been received by us (The Registration Office) and you have an Invitation Letter from the Home Office to contact us.

For those new citizens in receipt of a Home Office Invitation letter, please call 0141 287 7655 (9.30am-4.30pm - Monday to Friday) to arrange a Citizenship Ceremony.

A maximum number of 2 guests per citizen are allowed to attend with you.  Please note we will be unable to accommodate any extra guests.

 

What documents do I need to bring to my Citizenship Ceremony?

• Home Office Invitation Letter along with
• A form of Photographic ID i.e. Passport, Driver's Licence

If you do not bring along these documents your ceremony cannot go ahead, and you will be asked to re-schedule a new date.

What are the legal requirements?

All matters relating to application and qualification for British Citizenship are dealt with by the Home Office's, Immigration & Nationality branch in Liverpool.

How much does it cost?

The fees for naturalisation and citizenship are set by the British Nationality (Fees) Regulations 2003 and are payable to the Home Office, Immigration and Nationality branch in Liverpool.
