What is it?

Laurieston TRA, situated in the Gorbals area on the Southside of the River Clyde, is bounded by the Union Line Railway to the South and East and Eglington Street to the West. Following stock transfer in 2003, a process of clearance and demolition ensued, adding to large areas of vacant and derelict land. The project will see the redevelopment of 13 hectares of vacant land with the delivery of up to 900 new homes

Early phases delivered 101 multi-award winning affordable housing for social rent by New Gorbals Housing Association. Southside HA completed the refurbishment of the former Linen Bank development in December 2019, including 6 MMR homes.

As part of a long-term private sector development partnership, Urban Union are in the final stages of completion on Phase 2 (200 units).  Urban Union are on site preparing Phase 3 which will deliver 349 private homes for sale and 9 commercial units.  These homes are complemented by the recently opened Linear Park. Urban Union are progressing designs with New Gorbals Housing Association for a mixed tenure development on the former Coliseum theatre site.

Partnership working has been key to the success of this project so far to deliver a world-class City Centre district, providing high-quality affordable new homes and a quality environment for new and existing residents. Other projects in the TRA include the Citizens Theatre regeneration which continues.  As part of the City Deal 'Avenues' South Portland Street is to be improved with active travel improvements.  New Gorbals Housing Association are leading on enhancements to Cleland Lane which includes general lighting and the improvement of two railway arches plus one walk through from Gorbals Street to Laurieston Road.
