Council approves sale of part of the former Blawarthill Hospital site to housing association

Glasgow City Council's Executive Commitee today (14 September) approved the sale of part of the former Blawarthill Hospital site to Yoker Housing Association.

This part of the former hospital, at Dyke Road / Holehouse Road, is 1.62 acres in size, and includes a two-storey C-listed building dating from 1897.

Yoker Housing Association will pay the council £100,000 for the site, and they intend to build a residential scheme - featuring 10 houses (a mix of two and three apartment homes) and nine flats - for affordable social rent there.

Councillor TBC, said: "The disposal of this site is good news for the city, bringing both a contribution to public finances and creating more affordable homes in Glasgow.  We can all look forward to the development of this site, which will bring a piece of vacant land back into use."

This site is part of the larger former Blawarthill Hospital, acquired by the council in February 2017.  A new 70 bed social work care home is planned by the council on another part of the larger site.
