The Halt Service

The Halt Service opened in 1994 to work with children and young people between the age of 5-18 where their sexual behaviour is causing harm to them or others.

Who are we?

We are a small team of two Team Leaders and two Qualified Social Workers. We also have a Forensic Psychologist who supports us with consultation and mental health advice and guidance.

Who do we work with?

We work directly with children, young people and their families or carers.

We also work with the other agencies that might be involved with the child or young person, such as school, CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) or other support services.

We share the knowledge we have gained through our work by delivering training to social workers and residential staff.

What to expect from the service

Coming to Halt can be hard work for children and young people but also for their parents or carers.  We aim to treat everyone with respect and care because we see it as our job to keep everyone safe and find the best ways to help.

We believe that with the right help children and their families can move on from the behaviour and go on to live more fulfilling lives.

How can a referral be made?

Our referrals come from social workers in Glasgow area teams and sometimes Procurator Fiscals as part of a diversion from prosecution service.
