What is it?

The Scottish Government has announced a £62 million fund to assist eligible Taxi and Private Hire Drivers/Private Hire and Taxi Licence Holders in Scotland with fixed costs.

The purpose of this fund is to provide a one-off grant payment to licensed taxi owners/operators, with grant amounts based on the number of licences held as follows:

  • 1 vehicle - a single award of £1,000
  • 2 to 9 vehicles - a single award of £3,000
  • 10 to 49 vehicles - a single award of £7,000
  • 50 or more vehicles - a single award of £15,000

This is available to Taxi/Private Hire Operators licensed by Glasgow Licensing Authority who meet the eligibility criteria below.  This fund will be administered by Glasgow City Council.

Eligibility 

    To be eligible you must meet all the following criteria:

    • Hold one or more valid Taxi or Private Hire Vehicle Licences as at 3 June 2021 issued by Glasgow Licensing Authority.
    • Have experienced a loss of income from the 3 June 2021 as a Taxi Operator or Private Hire Operator (50% of your turnover, compared with 2019) and incurred overhead costs and expenses?
    • You are/have been working or have been available for work as a Taxi Operator or Private Hire Operator up to 3 June 2021.
    • You have not breached any wider COVID-19 regulations or requirements prior to local restrictions e.g. received a fixed penalty notice.
    • You are not connected to a tax haven as set out in the  Coronavirus (Scotland) (No.2) Act 2020.
    • Where a vehicle licence is held jointly by more than one individual, you have agreed authority from said individual(s) to claim this grant.

    How to Apply

    Application should be made using the Online Application Form completing all parts of the form that applies to you. Please have the undernoted documents ready for submitting with your application when applying.

    Supporting Evidence: 

    • You will need to attach a bank statement dated within the last 3 months which shows your name, address, account number and sort code.
    • Provide Plate Numbers of all vehicle licences held with Glasgow Licensing Authority.  If Taxi/Private Hire Operations has more than 20 vehicles, a list detailing all plate numbers must be uploaded as a separate document as part of the application process.
    • Please note that all taxis/private hire vehicles listed in the application must be operated by the same person or persons, ie. individual holder or the same partners and directors (does not include day to day managers).
    • If you operate other taxis/private hire vehicles with different persons, then you must submit a separate application for these.

    Evidence of Business:

    Please upload an image or digital copy of one of the following in support of your application (select the most appropriate option for your business type:

    • Company: Certificate of Incorporation or Companies House registration number.
    • Partnership: Partnership agreement or HMRC registration.
    • Sole Trader: HMRC registration, Self-assessment documents or valid business insurance document.
    • Trust: Constitution documents, HMRC registration or VAT registration document.

    Failure to provide the requested evidence will delay the processing of your application.

    If you receive the grant you can continue to work or take on other employment including voluntary work.

    Payment of Grant

    We aim to pay all grants within 4 weeks of the date of receipt of a fully completed application. 

    Please Note:

    • Individual vehicle licence holders who were also supported through the Taxi/Private Hire Drivers Fund do not need to apply.
    • Payments will automatically be made to those in this category.
    • We intend to make payments to those who fall into this category within 10 to 14 working days from the fund going live.  

    Disclaimer

    The information provided by you on your application will be used by Glasgow City Council in order to process your application.  It may be shared with other outside agencies in the interests of preventing fraud.

    Please be advised that if any fraudulent claims are found, Glasgow City Council will seek recovery of overpayments, including pressing criminal charges, where necessary and may refer the matter to the Licensing and Regulatory Committee which could result in the suspension or revocation of your Licence.
