New youth Survey Released Ahead of Free Bus Travel for Under 22's

Free Bus Travel Scheme Survey

Ahead of the launch of the Scottish Government's Free Bus Travel Scheme for all residents of Scotland under the age of 22, new research has been commissioned by The Scottish Government's Transport Analytical Services Division in the form of an online survey to gather data on travel behaviour.

The new scheme is set to be implemented on 31 January 2022 and will mean all young people in Scotland, aged between 5 and 21, will be eligible for free bus travel.

The provision of free bus travel for under 22's aims to encourage greener travel patterns and increase opportunities for children and young people to engage in education, employment and social activities, and to ensure no young person is excluded due to travel costs.

With Scotland being the first country to introduce free travel for this age group, there is a lack of data from elsewhere to suggest what the uptake and impact will be. Therefore, the distribution of this survey is the first step to try and understand current travel patterns and behaviours, so that any changes after the scheme is introduced can be identified by Transport Scotland.

All local authorities in Scotland have been asked to participate in this research project.

The travel survey can be accessed here: online1.snapsurveys.com/under22travelsurvey and can be completed up until the closing date - 24 January 2022. The survey should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete and can be filled out by parents/carers of younger children, or by young people themselves.

Those who participate, will have the chance to enter a prize draw to win up to £250 in Love2Shop Vouchers.
