Scotland Loves Local - Glasgow Gift Card

Why is Glasgow City Council distributing Scotland Loves Local Glasgow gift cards?

Glasgow City Council has sent gift cards worth £105 to just under 85,000 eligible households in the city. The cards, which can be spent within Glasgow, are helping to support both residents struggling with the cost of living crisis and local businesses recovering from the coronavirus pandemic.

Funding for the project has come from a £9.45m Covid Economic Recovery Funding package awarded to the council by the Scottish Government.

Scotland Loves Local Glasgow Gift Cards can only be spent with businesses that are signed up to accept the Scotland Loves Local Gift Card. There are 950 businesses of all sizes signed up to accept the gift card across the city already.

The Scotland Loves Local campaign looks to encourage people in Scotland to think local first and support businesses on their local high streets. The Scotland Loves Local Glasgow Gift Card can be seen as a local currency - allowing people to spend their gift cards in their favourite local businesses, or on household essentials, in a way that keeps spending local for longer eligible households, benefitting the local economy in the process.

Where and how to spend

• You must have activated your gift card by 30th November 2022. Once activated, your gift card is valid for a period of 12 months
• When activated, you can spend your gift card in a variety of businesses in the Glasgow City Council region that are registered to accept them. 
• The list of businesses that are signed up to accept the Scotland Loves Local gift card in Glasgow can be found on the Scotland Loves Local webpage.  
  • Zoom in and out on the map and using the + and - boxes, click on the icons across the Glasgow boundary to find out more about the businesses that are registered to receive your gift card
  • Alternatively, below the map you can view a list of all businesses that are signed up to accept the Scotland Loves Local Glasgow Gift and you can also sort the list using business type headings 
• The value of the card can be spent in several different transactions over multiple businesses.

I have not activated my card	All gift card recipients were advised that they[HI(1]  have until the 30.11.22 to activate their gift cards.  Unfortunately, if you have missed the activation deadline and not activated your gift card by this date you will be unable to use your gift card. Please be advised we are unable to activate any gift cards after the 30.11.22
I lost my card after it was activated	Unfortunately, if you lose your card after it is activated, we will not be able to replace the card. Please take a note of your 16 digit card number and 3 digit CVV number on the back of your card and keep them safe as you will need these details if you use your card to make online purchases.
I lost my card before it was activated	Unfortunately, if you lose your card before it is activated, we will not be able to replace the card.
I damaged my card after it was activated	Unfortunately, if you damage your card after it is activated, we will not be able to replace the card. How do I check the balance I have on my card	You have 3 options to choose from: Scan the QR code on your card to check your balance - this will take you directly to a link to open to display your balance Visit www.getmybalance.com - remember to have your 16 digit card number and your 6 digit card security code (both found on the back of your card) to hand Call the balance enquiry number on 0121 260 2849 - remember to have your 16 digit card number and your 6 digit card security code (both found on the back of your card) to hand
How long do I have to spend my card?	You have 12 months from the date you activated your card to spend the gift card balance
How do I use my gift card to make an online purchase	You can use your gift card to make online purchases with several businesses including Marks & Spencer, Sainsburys and Boots. Please take a note of your 16 digit card number and the 3 digit CVV number on the back of your card and keep them safe in case you lose or damage your card.  You will need this information if you wish to make any online purchases using your gift card.

 

How to Register your Business

The Scotland Loves Local - Glasgow Gift cards can only be used in registered businesses.

• Businesses need to have a MasterCard terminal
• Businesses must have premises in Glasgow
