LEZ Community Support Fund now open for applications
A £250,000 fund, paid for by LEZ penalty charge income is now open for applications.
The Low Emission Zone Community Support Fund will back organisations that can deliver their own environmental projects - with grants of between £20,000 and £50,000 available for initiatives that improve air quality, reduce climate change emissions, or improve Glasgow's amenity.
The move follows confirmation earlier this year that the new fund, as well as our 'Greening the City' programme would both benefit from an equal share of £500,000 LEZ penalty charge income.
Applications to the community fund are encouraged from a wide range of groups including private and voluntary sector organisations, housing associations, community interest companies, universities and further education colleges. Also eligible to apply are charities and community benefit organisations.
With application packs now available and an information event planned for next week, Cllr Angus Millar, Convener for Transport and Climate is urging groups and organisations to find out more and apply for funding as soon as they can.
Cllr Millar said: "Glasgow's Low Emission Zone is showing early signs of success in improving air quality, and with this new fund we will be able to extend its positive impact by supporting local environmental projects.
"With the fund now open, this is a great opportunity for groups and organisations to come forward with initiatives and get their applications in before the deadline.
"The fund is open to a broad range of groups, with help and support available to progress applications including a detailed guidance pack and an online information event.
"With £250,000 available to support a diverse number of local projects, the new fund will make a real difference to those looking to get an initiative up and running. And, with the LEZ also supporting the delivery of new trees across the city, we can deliver both cleaner air and greener streets in the city centre and beyond."
