In 2024, Bloomberg Philanthropies launched a global Youth Climate Action Fund, and as one of the participating cities, Glasgow received grant funding of more than £39,000 to support youth-led climate projects through the distribution of local grants.
Following a successful first round, which funded eight diverse projects across the city, Glasgow has been awarded an extra £70,000 from Bloomberg to deliver a second phase of the YCAF and continue to engage with and empower young people to build a greener future.
The council will be awarding grants of up to £3,900 to 17 or more city projects.
Councillor Angus Millar, City Convener for Climate and Transport has welcomed the additional funding that will benefit grassroot projects that will make a difference to Glasgow's citizens.
He said: "Glasgow has nurtured a successful partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies which was consolidated on the run-up, during and after COP26 in Glasgow in 2021.
"The Youth Climate Action Fund is a way in which citizens and groups who are passionate about climate change can turn their ideas into reality and without financial barriers.
"The awards will give the freedom to explore imaginative solutions to tackle the climate crisis the world is facing. Everyone has a part to play, and I know that be working together and forging partnerships like the one we have with Bloomberg, will make a difference at a grassroots level.
"I urge any individual or group who could benefit from the Youth Climate Action fund to apply today."

Success Stories from Phase 1
Glasgow's Youth Climate Action Fund supported eight projects focused on a range of climate topics in 2024. Projects included climate education and learning programmes, transforming spaces for food growing and community gardens, embedding sustainability into school curriculums, creating art murals which illustrate Scotland's changing climate, and hosting up cycling and reuse workshops for young people to develop new skills.
"The funding was vital for us to begin turning a rarely used tennis court into an organic garden. We are now growing food within our timetabled curriculum, learning for sustainability, and providing pupils access to nutritious food. We aim to build on this each year, creating a more sustainable community, and educating pupils, parents, and staff, about the benefits of growing food. I would encourage anyone looking to take positive climate action to apply - there is a real opportunity to lead a sustainable solution within your own community. It is uplifting to hear about the many other projects in our city that are striving to have a positive impact."
Mr Williams, Project Co-Ordinator
"Witnessing the change, due to the financial help, to make this project come to life has been a wonderful experience. I hope to continue making small changes in my life, in an attempt to make it more sustainable."
Zoha, Youth Project Lead
For one of the participants, this unlocked a new passion which she wants to develop further and has since progressed onto studying fashion at college, something she had never considered before being part on the project. This has been a fantastic project for our young people, thank you YCAF for providing an opportunity for young people's voices to be heard!"
