Residents' Views Sought on Future Look of Liveable Neighbourhoods
Published: 1st of September, 2022
Residents of two developing Liveable Neighbourhoods in the north and south of the city are being invited to comment on visualisations which show how their area could look in the future.
The council is seeking feedback from communities within the Ruchill to Cowlairs and Langside to Toryglen Liveable Neighbourhoods, as well as encouraging residents to share their views on how their local area could be improved.
To progress design development for these Liveable Neighbourhoods and to prepare funding bids that would take identified projects through to implementation, opinions are being sought on draft images that illustrate:
- a safer and much improved Dummy Railway footpath
- safer and more appealing public realm on Ruchill Street
- safer and more attractive public realm around Langside Monument/Battlefield Road
- more appealing walking routes in Toryglen through the revitalisation of open spaces within local streets
To see the visualisations for all four projects and to complete the surveys, please click on this link by 5pm on Friday 14 October 2022.
There are also drop-in events for residents where they can view and discuss these projects:
- Ruchill-Cowlairs Liveable Neighbourhoods: Tues 11th Oct (2pm-5pm) at The Courtyard, 2 Wester Common Drive.
- Langside-Toryglen Liveable Neighbourhoods: Wed 19 Oct (10am-12:30pm) at Toryglen Community Base,179 Prospecthill Circus, and Wed 19 Oct (4pm-7pm) at Langside Parish Church, 167 Ledard Road.

Glasgow's Liveable Neighbourhoods are set to reduce the city's car dependency by transforming streets into safer, more attractive spaces where everyday needs can be met locally and where people travelling actively and by public transport are prioritised.
Residents are at the core of their development and since last year they have been participating in a range of activities to identify improvements that reflect the needs of their communities, some of which will progress to construction.
This fresh call for community feedback follows publication earlier this year of a shortlist of potential projects for Liveable Neighbourhoods in Ruchill to Cowlairs and Langside to Toryglen. Together with Dennistoun to Cranhill, Govan to Kingston and Yorkhill to Anderston these five areas collectively form the first tranche of Liveable Neighbourhood development, co-designed with residents and funded by Sustrans Scotland.
The Liveable Neighbourhoods Programme is Glasgow's approach to blending the 20-minute neighbourhood concept with the place principle to respond to the current environmental, social, health and economic challenges the city faces. Other areas in line for the next stages of Liveable Neighbourhoods development are:
- Pollokshaws, Mansewood, Pollokshields West, Shawlands and Strathbungo
- Greater Gorbals, Govanhill and Pollokshields East
- Sighthill, Roystonhill, Germiston, Blackhill and Hogganfield
- Yoker, Scotstoun, Jordanhill and Whiteinch
Details of future phases, covering other areas of the city will follow as soon as possible.
