St Mungo's Mark Unicef World Children's Day with Inspired Art

To mark this year's Unicef World Children's Day and their OutRight campaign which focuses on tackling air pollution - pupils from St Mungo's Primary School set about creating unique and vibrant artwork to showcase how air quality could be improved around their school.
Learning About Air Pollution
After learning more about the harmful effects of polluted air on their health, the children enthusiastically responded to their task, with two of the stand-out designs made into display banners by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
Michelle Smith, Headteacher at St Mungo's Primary said: "The children have embraced with enthusiasm the chance to learn more about the risks of air pollution.
"Being able to involve them in Unicef World Children's Day and express their views on air pollution through creative design has been an amazing opportunity. We're proud to be able to display the two winning designs on the banners outside the school for everyone to see."
Glasgow's Low Emission Zone
With Glasgow's Low Emission Zone set to be introduced at the end of next month, Councillor Anna Richardson, Convener for Sustainability and Carbon Reduction was on hand at the school today to find out more about what the children have been learning and to see for herself the two colourful banners that will take pride of place at the school.
Councillor Anna Richardson, said: "It's been wonderful to visit St Mungo's Primary today and spend time with the pupils. The banners look great and the children are excited about being able to display their work about the risks of air pollution.
"Clean air is a priority for this city and that is why we are introducing Glasgow's Low Emission Zone at the end of this year. Glasgow's LEZ will reduce harmful vehicle emissions and make our vibrant city centre a safer and more pleasant place to be."
The winning designs will be displayed prominently at St Mungo's and will be a lasting reminder of their endeavours to highlight air pollution on Unicef World Children's Day.
OutRight
OutRight is Unicef UK's annual youth campaign that empowers children and young people to speak out about children's rights on World Children's Day - 20 November - the anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. It's a campaign by children, for children that helps them to promote and protect children's rights in the UK and around the world.
