Household Waste Recycling Centre and Weighbridge Facilities

What kind of items can I take to the waste centres?

Our centres now provide a full waste disposal service, accepting the following waste types - bags of household waste, electrical Items (including lamps, tv screens and monitors), white goods, mattresses, wood (including small furniture), cardboard, garden waste, scrap metal, rubble, dry mixed recyclables, textiles, engine oil, hazardous household items such solvent based paint, pesticides etc, car batteries.

Can I take commercial waste?

Commercial waste will not be accepted at our Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Commercial Waste must go via the Weighbridge where you will be charged (see Weighbridge below)

All household recycling waste is subject to a visual inspection by on-site staff and you may be asked to provide proof of where the waste came from. Any waste that is suspected to be commercial will not be accepted.  You may face enforcement action if an offence has been committed by the depositing of trade or commercial waste at one of our sites.

What is a weighbridge?   

A weighbridge is a large set of scales used to weigh entire vehicles and their contents. By weighing the vehicle both empty and when loaded, the load carried by the vehicle can be calculated.

Do I need an account to use the waste centre/weighbridge?        

• I am an individual disposing of household waste - No you do not need an account.
•  I am an individual / business disposing of commercial waste - Yes you do need an account.

If you do not already have an account you must complete the online form before attending our weighbridge centres.

You will be asked to upload evidence of your address in the form of a utility bill / company letterhead and waste transfer licence if applicable.

Failure to provide all the above will result in a delay creating your account.

You will be notified via email of your account details and must allow 5 working days before making further contact with us.

Please do not attend the waste centre without notification of your account number.

Vehicles which don't require an account must bring 2 forms of ID to evidence they are a Glasgow Resident

I have been refused entry as my account is in arrears    

Accounts must be up to date to use the waste centre.

Accounts in arrears will have a block placed on our systems which will only be removed when accounts are settled in full.

Please visit our webpage Pay it and choose Glasgow City Council Invoice ensuring you have the invoice number to hand. You will receive an electronic receipt to retain for your records.  

If you are disputing the charge or have misplaced your invoice and require further details, please complete our online form and one of our experienced team members will call you to discuss and resolve.

Do I need to book a slot?

Housing associations, Businesses/trade and charities are required to book a slot and can do so here.

Residents do not however please be mindful delays are still being experienced.

How much does it cost?

What ID do I need to bring?  

Please bring proof of Glasgow residence - a council tax or utility bill or your driver's licence.

How are queues being managed? 

Temporary measures to manage traffic at each site are in place.

Due to physical distancing requirements, the number of vehicles allowed into each site at any one time is strictly limited. Once capacity is reached we will operate a policy of 'one vehicle out, one vehicle in'.

Cones and signage are in place to help guide drivers safely into the each site. Please follow the direction of staff on hand to manage traffic. Signs that give an indication of waiting times are in place, but it is fully anticipated there will be delays before entering a centre.

Can I take glass recycling to one of the recycling centres?

Glass and other dry recyclable materials are now accepted.  Alternatively you can continue to utilise the network of public collection points across the city.  Further information on the location of these sites can be found via the Council website. 

Is there a limit to how much you can take? Is there a weight limit? 

Vans used by residents will be accepted at Dawsholm only between 08:00 - 11:30 and 13:30 - 17:00.  The total weight of the van must be less than 3.5 tonnes.

Can I take a van?

Vans used by residents will be accepted at Easter Queenslie, Dawsholm and Shieldhall only between 08:00 - 11:30 and 13:30 - 17:00.  Entry will be refused at any other times.  This is to enable us to safely manage the number of vans using the centre.

Please do not visit Polmadie to use a van to transport your household materials as you will be refused entry.  The total weight of the van must be less than 3.5 tonnes. 

All vans are required to report to the weighbridge and not the main HWRC entry point. Staff on site will then provide direction to the tipping location.

Why can't I take a van to Polmadie?

Vans used by residents will be accepted at Easter Queenslie, Dawsholm and Shieldhall only between 08:00 - 11:30 and 13:30 - 17:00.

The layout of the Easter Queenslie site allows for safer and easier access for vans to enter and exit.
