The Children's Fund is designed to assist disadvantaged children and young people under the age of 18 and attend a public school.  The objectives of the fund are as follows:

  • The prevention of relief of child poverty within the City of Glasgow;
  • The advancement of education for children within the City of Glasgow;
  • The advancement of citizenship and community development in relation to children (including the promotion of civic responsibility, volunteering, the voluntary sector or the effectiveness or efficiency of charities) within the City of Glasgow.

An example of an application to this fund would be to cover the cost of a residential school trip for a child who would otherwise not be able to go on due to their family not being able to afford this. This ensures that the child doesn't miss out on this opportunity and is able to participate with the rest of their class.

Examples of things that the fund has covered are things like white goods, furniture and clothing.

The funds are administered by Social Work and Education Services on behalf of the Lord Provost of Glasgow, which ensures that the people who are most in need can be identified and supported."
