William Dunlop Davidson was born in London in 1898, the son of Scottish parents William Davidson, a bank cashier, and his wife Bessie Thomasina. In May 1914 he followed his father into a banking career, starting work as an apprentice in Glasgow Partick branch of Commercial Bank of Scotland.
During the First World War Davidson joined the Royal Flying Corps, later the Royal Air Force. Second Lieutenant Davidson of the RAF was killed in action in France on 30 May 1918. He was 19 years old.
