One of the sons of Captain and Mrs Jackson, Murrochsdale South Avenue,Govan, Glasgow. William was an apprentice with Messrs D. & W. Henderson. He was a lover of all outdoor sports. He enlisted in the 5th Camerons in the first week of the war, at the age of 19. After training at Inverness, Aldershot and elsewhere in England, he went to France in July 1915. He was posted as missing in the Battle of Loos, France, 25th September 1915.
