Leckie, George Henry Gibson 332246 ( - 1918)

George was the son of Mr John Sands Leckie and Mrs Leckie, 15 Clifford Street, Ibrox, Glasgow.
He was married and his widow resided at West Barns, Hawkhead Road, Glasgow. Prior to his joining the army he was an agent in the muslin and linen trade.
In June 1915 he enlisted in the Glasgow Highlanders but was later drafted to the 6th Battalion of the Highland Light Infantry. He was on board the troop ship "Ivernia" which was torpedoed in the Mediterranean on 1st January 1917. With the others he was rescued, landed at Crete and afterwards proceeded to Egypt. In Palestine he saw much severe fighting, including the attack on Gaza. Along with the 52nd Division he went over to France early in 1918.
While taking part in the attack on the Drocourt-Queant Line he was killed at Croisilles, France, on 27th August 1918.
