Robert was the youngest son Mr James Leggat and Mrs Leggat, 2 Fleurs Avenue, Dumbreck, Glasgow.
A fine footballer, Robert played regularly in Bellahouston Academy First XI.
He returned from Canada and joined the London Scottish in June 1915. He went to France in September of that year.
He had been promoted Lance-Sergeant in the field. For his gallantry, Lance-Sergeant Leggat was mentioned in the Colonel's official despatch.
He was killed in action at Gommecourt Wood, France, on 1st July 1916 after helping to hold the enemy during the evacuation of a position several hours after the force had been isolated.
