Lockhart, Robert H. ( - 1915)
Second Lieutenant, 7th Bn. Royal Scots Fusiliers
Buried at Vermelles British Cemetery
Commemorated at Bellahouston Academy Roll of Honour
Robert was the son of Mr Robert Lockhart, 36 Clifford Street, Ibrox, Glasgow.
At Bellahouston Academy he proved himself a brilliant scholar and was Dux Medallist in 1909. At the University Bursary Competition he gained the Bethia Stewart Bursery and, after a distinguished student career, graduated in 1913. With the intention of entering the legal profession he joined the staff of Messrs Wright, Johnston & MacKenzie; but the war cut short his training. With his outstanding ability and sterling character, he had every prospect of a most distinguished future.
He joined the 9th Highland Light Infantry in 1914. In 1915 he received his commission in the 14th Middlesex Regiment but was transferred to the 7th Royal Scots Fusiliers. With this regiment he went to France in October 1915.
He was killed on the 11th November 1915, near Vermelles, France, by the bursting of a shell in his dug-out.
