In November 1914, he enlisted in the 7th Cameron Highlanders. Lance Corporal Brown was severely wounded in the Battle of Loos, France. He was killed in France on 28 June 1916.

He was the son of Mr and Mrs Robert Brown, 68 Pollok Street, Pollokshields, Glasgow. Before the war, he had been in business with his father, of the firm of Brown & Angus, joiners, Shields Road.
