Lieutenant Collins was a keen Territorial and on the outbreak of war signed on for active service. In November 1914, he went to France with the 5th Scottish Rifles. In February 1915, he was wounded. Receiving his commission in January 1916, he again took part in the fighting with the Scottish Rifles and was again wounded in May 1917. For a third time he was in the fighting line and while on duty he was killed near Ypres, Belgium, on the 25 September 1917.
Albert was the eldest son of Mr John T. Collins, who resided at 45 Cliffored Street, Glasgow. On leaving school he joined the staff of Messrs MacLehose & Co., printers, Anniesland.
