John Paterson was a private in the 1st Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). He was involved in the fighting around the village of Busigny in France as part of the Battle of Cambrai. He died on 18 October 1918, aged 30 and is buried Busigny Communal Cemetery Extension.

John Paterson was born in Dalry, Aryrshire and was the son of William and Marion Paterson. He was married to Jessie and at the time of his death, their address was 10 Hutton Drive, South Govan, Glasgow.
