Payne, Robert 2420 (1895 - 1918)

Private Robert Ernest Payne served withe the 3rd Battalion of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF). He left Australian to go to the First World War with the 2nd Reinfocements from Sydney on HMAT Seang Bee on 11 February 1915.

After being wounded in action at Gallipoli, he was transferred to Malta where, on 18 August 1915 he died of tetanus, aged 21. All three men are buried in the Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. He is buried with Corporal (Cpl) Anderson McIntosh, 15th Battalion of the AIF and an unidentified British serviceman.

Robert was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Payne of 77, Howe St., Derby, England. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland.
