Kenneth was the second son of Dr. Ross, Paisley Road West and Mrs Ross, 64 Clifford Street, Ibrox, Glasgow.
Dr. Ross was 26 years of age and was married in November 1917 to Miss Kitty McLeod, Easton Villa, Govan, Glasgow. "Ken", "as he was always affectionately known at school and University, was an all-round athlete and a man of most winning personality". He was a member of the team which won the Sladen Swimming Trophy in 1906 and a noted player in the historic team which won the Secondary Schools Football Championship in 1909. Whilst at the University he continued to share the successes of the Former Pupils Team. In 1915 he graduated M.B., Ch.B.
He joined the Royal Army Medical Corps. In 1916 he received his Captaincy and acted as Medical Officer to the 20th Lancashire Fusiliers. After a year in France he was invalided home. In August 1918 he volunteered for further service in France and was attached to the 1/5th Highland Light Infantry.
