Edward was the youngest son Mr and Mrs Joseph Macreadie, Hope-Temple, Ibroxholm, Glasgow.
Leaving Bellahouston Academy in 1912 he joined the firm of Messrs Aitken Lilburn & Co., shipowners, 80 Buchanan Street.
He enlisted in the 3rd Highland Light Infantry in 1916 and after training at Edinburgh and Plymouth proceeded to the East in March 1917. Arriving in India in May he was subsequently attached to a draft of the 1st Highland Light Infantry for service in Mesopotamia, area of the Tigris-Euphrates river system.
After a short time in Mesopotamia he succumbed to an attack of fever at Sheik Saad (present day Iraq) on the 17th July 1917.
