Stanley was the fourth son of Mr George Murray, Garthland, 24 Fleurs Avenue, Dumbreck, Glasgow.

He was employed as a clerk with Messrs John S. Craig & Co., Portman Street.

He joined the 9th Highland Light Infantry in October 1915. He went to France in April 1916.

He was killed in action on the Somme (France) on 1st November 1916. He was only 19 years of age.
