Charles was born on the 19th December 1886 in Glasgow, and went to Canada in 1913 to work for Canadian National Railways.
He enlisted on the 19th August 1914, landing in France on the 2nd February 1915.
He served at Ypres and was gassed on the 23rd April 1915 then captured by the Germans the following day.
He served time as a POW at Gottingen, Cassel, Langensalza and Soltau.
Charles was repatriated to Canada, married in Montreal and had two children. He died as a result of his injuries on the 28th August 1939.
