John enlisted in September 1914. He served for some time with the Royal Army Medical Corps in England and Ireland until he was transferred to the 1/6th KingĀ“s Own Scottish Borderers. After training at Edinburgh he left with his regiment for France at the end of 1917. He took part in some heavy fighting. For good work done at Kemmel he was awarded the Military Medal.
On August 18th 1918, he was killed at Meteren Ridge (France) by the bursting of a shrapnel shell. He was 24 years old.
John was the son of Mr and Mrs James Scott who resided at 985 Govan Road, Govan, Glasgow.
Memorial: Lance Corporal Scott has no known grave but is commemorated at Polegstreet Memorial, Belgium; Bellahouston Academy Roll of Honour 1914-1918 and the Scottish National War Memorial.
