Walter was the son of Mr and Mrs W Simpson, Harehills, Cardonald, Glasgow.

He just finished his apprenticeship with Mr William Morier, Copland Road, Govan, Glasgow.

He enlisted in the 17th Highland Light Infantry in September 1914.

He was killed in action at the Somme (France) on the fateful 1st of July 1916.
