Council grants 25-year lease to allow creation of sensory garden in Lambhill

Glasgow City Council's Executive Committee today (22 September) granted social enterprise Lambhill Stables Ltd a 25-year lease for land to create a sensory garden on an area of ground adjacent to Possil Marsh Wildlife Reserve.
This will complete the community garden in Lambhill - itself adjacent to the Lambhill Stables building - which currently features a food growing area in which more than 50 volunteers participate; a garden of contemplation; a wildflower area; a burn; a number of ponds; and areas of biodiversity on the one acre site.
The granting of the 25-year lease by the council allows Lambhill Stables Ltd the opportunity of accessing Big Lottery funding which would then allow the sensory garden to be developed, a long-held aim of the social enterprise. Without such a lease, this funding could not be accessed.
Councillor George Redmond, Executive Member for Jobs, Business and Investment at Glasgow City Council, said: "The community garden has been a great success in Lambhill, regenerating a derelict site and bringing pleasure to its visitors and the people of the area. We are delighted to grant this lease - which will allow a sensory garden to be developed, with all the benefits it can bring - to Lambhill Stables Ltd."
Possil Marsh Wildlife Reserve is an area of Special Scientific Interest.
Lambhill Stables Ltd will pay concessionary rent only on this site, at Balmore Road, as this is a non-profit venture for the benefit of the wider community.
