Digital Telecare

Telecare: Analogue to Digital Switchover

Telephone providers across the UK, such as BT, Virgin Media, Sky and Talk Talk are replacing analogue phone lines with digital ones in preparation for the digital switchover, which will see analogue phone lines being switched off by 2025. This shift means that phone services will be connected in the same way as the internet.

The delivery of telecare services across the whole of the UK will be affected, and we are starting to upgrade our telecare/ community alarm service.

How will our customers be affected?

Customers with analogue telecare alarms will require to have their devices replaced with new digital alarms, as analogue alarms will not work reliably on a digital connection. Your current alarm device will look similar to this:

Some of our customers already have digital alarms installed in their homes. These will not need to be replaced.

What benefits will digital alarms offer?

  • Faster connection to our call handlers
  • Improved sound quality - both you and the service staff will be able to hear each other better when you make a call
  • Safer - Digital Alarms are more reliable and let us know if there is an issue like loss of power

How are we preparing?

A dedicated project team has been set up specifically tasked with safely transitioning our customers over to digital technology. We will contact customers in advance to schedule appointments for digital alarm installation and setup.

What can our customers do?

If your telephone provider contacts you to arrange a digital upgrade, please make them aware that you are a telecare customer.  Additionally, please let us know if you have recently changed telecom provider.

Where can I get more information?

We will update this webpage as more information becomes available.

If you have any questions or concerns about the transition to digital telecare, please do not hesitate to contact us at telecare@sw.glasgow.gov.uk.

Beware of scams - Stay safe and secure

We want to alert all our valued community alarm and telecare service users to a recent increase in scam phone calls from individuals posing as representatives of Glasgow City HSCP's Telecare service.

We have been made aware of a small number of reports of companies requesting personal information and bank details, claiming it is necessary for maintaining your telecare service. Please be assured that we will never ask for bank details or payment over the phone. If you receive such a call, please hang up immediately and report it to us by contacting our telecare team on 0141 276 5615, or by email at telecare@sw.glasgow.gov.uk.
