Residents to help shape the development of four Liveable Neighbourhoods

Published: 31 January 2023

Overview

Local residents across Glasgow are being encouraged to help shape the development of Liveable Neighbourhoods in their area.

Funded by a Connecting Communities grant from Sustrans Scotland Places for Everyone programme, Liveable Neighbourhoods are being developed in four areas of the city as part of the wider programme's second tranche of work:

  • Mansewood to Shawlands
  • Pollokshields East to Gorbals
  • Royston to Hogganfield
  • Yoker to Whiteinch

Through a programme of online and in-person activities, residents will be encouraged to get involved in early-stage development work to ensure that proposed neighbourhood improvements have the potential to transform their communities into safer, more attractive spaces that meet local needs and aspirations.

Details of how to get involved (including drop-in/pop-up events and an online survey) are noted below for each Liveable Neighbourhood.

Existing community activity will be identified, and new interventions put forward that focus on four key themes - local town centres that can meet daily needs, reducing reliance on the car for everyday journeys, increasing active travel and rebalancing our streets for people.

This work will realise a long list of neighbourhood improvement ideas for the communities which could be shortlisted for further design development and potentially construction, for when suitable funding opportunities arise.

    Liveable Neighbourhoods

Liveable Neighbourhoods is Glasgow's approach to blending the 20-minute neighbourhood concept with the place principle to respond to the current environmental, social, health and economic challenges the city faces. Through six tranches of work, the programme will reach into all areas of the city.

Development of this latest set of Liveable Neighbourhoods, follows on from tranche one early-stage work that has led to the first five Liveable Neighbourhoods starting to take shape at Ruchill to Cowlairs, Langside to Toryglen, Yorkhill to Anderston, Dennistoun to Cranhill and Govan to Kingston.

You can find out more about the development of Liveable Neighbourhoods by clicking on this link.
