December 2022

7 December 2022 - Stay well this winter: Practices are open

NHS Stay well this Winter campaign image

Your local General Practice is open, and there are now more ways for you to access the care you need, with appointments, face to face, over the phone or on video call.

When you call your local General Practice, the receptionist will ask you a few questions, this is to help make sure you get the right care, with the right person at the right time.

GP receptionists are professionals and are integral to the practice team, and any questions they ask will be treated with strict confidentiality. They are working hard to ensure everyone gets the right care, with the right person at the right time. They will identify which healthcare professional within your practice team is best to meet your needs.

7 December 2022 - Grief affects us all differently - national awareness week 2 to 8 December 2022

Grief Awareness week campaign image

Grief affects us all in difference ways and it is important to remember, there is no 'normal' way to grieve. Many in the UK often feel lonely due to grief and the pain of loss can feel overwhelming, but there are healthy ways to cope with your grief and learn to heal.

This week is National Grief Awareness Week, run by The Good Grief Trust to help raise awareness of the impact of grief and to support all those bereaved. The theme this year is 'to open conversations and normalise grief'.  Whether it is in work, at home, in your community or online, you can reach out and have conversations to support each other.

Find support that suits your needs:

  • Reaching out - sometimes it just takes one person making the first step to rebuild lost connections. Try contacting those who were in your life before you were bereaved.
  • Searching for community groups - many places hold meals and activities to help with grief.  Let's talk about loss run a meet-up groups for people to meet up and talk honestly and openly to each other.
  • Volunteering - a great way to meet new people, and when you're ready, you could also help others bereaved.
